80s Rock | Blondie

Some Blondie Wiki:

  • An American rock band founded by singer Deborah Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. Their first two albums were successful here in the United Kingdom and in Australia, but Blondie was regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. Over the next three years, the band achieved several hit singles and was noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles incorporating elements of disco, pop and reggae, while retaining a basic style as a new wave band.
  • The band broke up after the release of their album The Hunter in 1982. Debbie, the lead vocalist, continued to pursue a solo career. The group reformed in 1997, achieving renewed success and a number one single in the United Kingdom with “Maria”. The group toured and performed throughout the world through the years, and was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the RockWalk of Fame in 2006.
  • Blondie has so far sold 40 million records worldwide.

Wanna Wear David Bowie? You Can!

Even before there’s Nirvana, Pearl Jam and, godforbid, Lady Gaga, punk rock was already widespread across mainstream radios in the 80’s. Mainly an underground phenomena to begin with, alternative/punk rock (which was once called “indie”) was primarily limited to independent record labels and college radio stations, at least in the US. Here in UK, however, punk rock had greater exposure through British national radios and weekly music press. It is in the late 70’s and early 80’s that the people have come to know the names David Bowie, Blondie, Guns and Roses, The Rolling Stores (not the magazine), among others. And don’t you dare tell me you don’t know these gods and goddesses.

In honor of these rock stars who moved up the ladder from being our fathers and mothers’ radio heros to our very own rock and roll legends, we will be doing a series on 80’s rock stars, courtesy of our friends from House of the Gods, who have been known for their unique music industry fashion. :)

To start off, check out these David Bowie shirts.

David Bowie | 80s Rock Fashion

Ten things about David Bowie:

  1. 1969 - David Bowie first caught the eye and ear of the public when the song “Space Oddity” reached the top five of the UK singles chart.
  2. 1972 - Emerged during the glam rock era as the flamboyant, androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust, a short-lived persona that epitomised a career often marked by musical innovation, reinvention, and visual presentation.
  3. 1975 - Achieved his first major American crossover success with the number-one single, “Fame”, co-written by John Lenon.
  4. 1977 - With his record label, American fans, and thriving career, he recorded the minimalist album, “Low”, the first of three collaborations with Brian Eno, which reached the UK Top Five.
  5. 1980 - Garnered UK number ones with the single “Ashes to Ashes” and its parent album, “Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps).
  6. 1981 - Paired with Queen for the UK chart-topping single “Under Pressure”
  7. 1983 - Reached his commercial peak with the album “Let’s Dance”.
  8. 1990’s to 2000’s - He continued to experiment with various musical styles, with his last recorded album, “Reality” in 2003.
  9. 2004 - Rolling Stone magazine ranked him 39th on their list of the 100 Greatest Rock Artists of All Time.
  10. Throughout his career, he has sold an estimated 136 million albums, and ranks among the ten best-selling acts in UK pop history.

M&MW: Red is the New Black, Even for Men

Why hello there everyone! It’s Wednesday once again, and here’s something I put together for the guys.

Confession, I have this crazy thing for men who can get away with wearing, ehem, red. It’s time to move away from the usual blacks and blues guys, time to highlight your outfit with red trimmings if you haven’t yet!

Mix & Match Wednesday | Red is Sexayy

Whether worn by men or women, I think red is so sexy. Don’t you think?

This set features some of the new pieces in our catalog, including this sexy red boxer shorts from one of our newest brands, the Smuggling Duds. Boxer shorts don’t have to be seen and worn outside, yes, but you know what they say — feel sexy inside, look sexy outside! Aye.

As for color combinations, putting black, white and red together is like having bacon and eggs for breakfast — it never fails. Accentuate that with some blues for an added “cool” effect and you’re ready to strut the streets! Hence, today’s Mix & Match is a combination of all these sexy colors. Check out these items:

(1) T-shirt: Religion’s Clubbed to Death, White, available also for Women; (2) Smuggling Duds Raver Boxer Shorts, Red; (3) Yes No Maybe Eyeball Cap, Red; (4) Bench Tron Pencil Bag, Black; (5) Vans Pack Web Belt, Blue/White/Red; and (6) Damaged’s Neon Jeans, Dark Blue. (White sneakers not included.)

Enjoy bringing sexy back with this very red and very rad attire. Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Back To Black And White

Black and white sure are a couple of cool colours – two of the most versatile ones out there, they go well with any other colour on the spectrum. (Yes, yes, we know that black and white are technically not colours, but please let’s not argue about that.)

When it comes to fashion, it’s smart to have a few black and white pieces in your wardrobe. They’re easy to match with your other coloured clothes, and they’ll stay in style for a long, long time, saving you both time and money. And who doesn’t want that?

On days when you’re having difficulty putting together an outfit, simply throw on a white graphic shirt and jeans, or slip into an all black ensemble – you’ll be out of your door in no time, looking effortlessly hip and stylish.

If your closet is currently full of reds, blues, greens, yellows, and other un-monochromatic hues, here are a few suggestions to get you started on incorporating black and white pieces into your wardrobe.

For the lads: Foil Point T-Shirt Vans - Black, Sitswit T-Shirt Vans - Black, Outline Star T-Shirt Religion - Winter White, Skull Jesus T-Shirt Religion - White.

And for the ladies: Bolt Flower Vest Top Religion - Winter White, Flying V X Back Top Religion - Jet Black, Long Sleeved Placket Top Religion - Jet Black, Lightning Eye Print Tee Religion - Winter White.

Remember, black and white are your friends!
