New Disney Movie Stormed With Controversies

Hail the first black Disney princess, Princess Tiana!

The new Disney Movie, The Princess and The Frog opens to a lot of controversies regarding the lead character’s color. Though many critics hail the new animated feature as a breakthrough for the animation outfit, still many criticize Disney for The Princess and The Frog.

Among the slew of complaints include the name of the heroine– Tiana, her job, the setting in New Orleans and Voodoo.

However stormed with controversies, writer and director Ron Clements is very much satisfied with his final product, saying that “Most of the elements we had in the story were in our original pitch to John Lasseter,” who is the principal Creative Advisor to Walt Disney Imagineering.

The director added “We’ve always felt a great responsibility with the subject matter that we’re dealing with. Our co-writer on the film Rob Edwards is African-American. We pitched the story to various people, prominent African-Americans including Oprah Winfrey, which is how she got involved with the movie. But we didn’t want to compromise the story we were trying to tell.”

Though, in reality, this is not the first Disney Princess of Color. In previous years, Disney has had the Arabian Princess Jasmine, Native American Pocahontas, and the Chinese Princess Warrior Mulan.

Do not let this be an issue about color, look at how fabolous this princess is!
