The Hurt Locker locks down on major BAFTA gongs
The Iraq war movie directed by James Cameron’s ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow swept six out of its eight nominations in the BAFTA awards Sunday. This easily beat out Cameron’s AVATAR which was its head on competition prior to the event.

Bigelow was the first woman to ever win the best director award for her movie potraying elite soldiers tasked with defusing bombs in the heat of combat. Her movie also won the categories for original screenplay, cinematography, editing and sound at yesterday’s event which was attended by stars such as Uma Thurman, Robert Pattinson and Colin Firth.
Bigelow’s small-budget war film may not have made it big in the box office as Cameron’s CG masterpiece, but the latter only won two of its eight nominations in the BAFTAs which makes Bigelow advantageous in this
side of the movie business.
Other winners in last night’s event include best actor Colin Firth for “A Single Man” where he portrays a gay academic fighting his grief.
The Best actress award goes to Carey Mulligan for “An Education” directed by British Novelist Nick Hornby who also wrote novel-turned-films “High Fidelity” and “About a Boy.”
Christoph Waltz plucked the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds.” Finally, Mo’Nique again claims the best supporting actress award which she also won in the Golden Globes last January.
In the same event, Prince William was announced as the new and fifth president following his grandfather, Prince Philip.
Awards night are always fun to watch not just because of the event but also because of the clothes. But unlike the red carpet, no one would bash your style if you dress up with Brandneusense.
