“Dragon” tames Box Office Crowd

The heavily hyped 3D adaptation of the popular Children’s novel did not disappoint as it ended Alice in Wonderland’s 3 week box office grasp on the top spot.

Though not as spectacular as Alice’s and Avatar’s opening weekend, the Gerard Butler led movie earned rave reviews from critics and viewers alike. This, according to Dreamworks’ spokesperson Anne Globe, should haul in the crowd in the weeks to come.

She said: “People just love the film, so we’re really anticipating we’ll benefit from strong word of mouth going forward.”

Scottish actor Gerard Butler voices main character Stoick the Vast as he struggles to protect his Viking community from a string of Dragon attacks. He is joined by former Ugly Betty America Ferrera and Jay Baruchel in the Vikings cast.

The family film managed an impressive $43 million over the weekend. A far cry from Butler’s recent flop The Bounty Hunter sharing honors with leading lady Jennifer Aniston. The latter squeezed $38 million from moviegoers, $2 million shy from its modest production budget.

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland was Queen of the Box Office for the past three weekends but had slipped to second place with 17.3 million dollars. Its worlwide earnings is now pegged at $656 million.

Gerard Butler is best known for his leading role in Frank Miller’s 300three years ago. But he will always strike us as that cool guy  with a laidback style and casual air. You can dress up just like him with Brandneusense.
