Mo’Nique wins Oscars, 5th black woman in history
Mo’nique or Monique Imes, the comedienne who was the gem shining brightly in the movie “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” becomes the fifth black woman to win an Oscar.
The feat was first accomplished by Hattie McDaniel in the classic “Gone with the Wind”, and when the full bodied funny woman accepted the award she left a touching message to the inspirational McDaniel, “I want to thank Miss Hattie McDaniel for enduring all she had to so that I would not have to,”
Mo’Nique follows the footsteps of recent Academy Award winner for best supporting actress, coincidentally, as voluptuous as the sassy Mo’Nique, Jennifer Hudson, who was showered with recognition with her breakthrough performance in Dreamgirls.
Fellow comedienne Whoopi Goldberg, is included in the list with her performance in the 1990 hit “Ghost”. While the most coveted female award was grabbed by the much coveted Halle Berry in her “Monster’s Ball” performance when she won Best Actress in the 2001 oscars.
Mo’Nique’s performance in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” was chilling as well as unforgettable, that’s why she stomps other Academy Awards hopefuls like Penepole Cruz, and Maggie Gyllenhaal in the competition for Best Supporting Actress.
