Emma Thompson enraged Isle of Wight with insensitive remarks
The brilliant yet tactless actress and director Emma Thompson has sparked up a controversy with her insensitive remarks regarding the treatment against homosexuals and Scottish in the Isle of Wight.

These comments were made when she guested on the late late night show in America while she and Craig Ferguson were discussing possible Holiday destinations.
While answering Ferguson’s statement about the comparison of Catalina and the Isle of Wight, she said: “Oh, so they stone homosexuals there? Nice.”
She continued with this offensive barrage, saying: “I think they are still allowed to flog them, which of course some of them enjoy.”
“I think they are allowed to shoot Irish or Scottish people if they arrive on the island - it is still in the rules.”
“They are allowed to torture people. It’s lovely, you should go,” she finished.
Her comments incited a response fromĀ David Pugh, council leader on the island. He told the Daily Telegraph: “It’s a great shame that someone with her profile should make such ridiculous claims.
“The island is a very diverse and welcoming place, as testified by the many millions of visitors that holiday here each year.
“Her claims are much ado about nothing and as outlandish as some of the fiction in theĀ Harry Potter films she has been working on.”
Brandneusense does not want to take sides on any issue, but if you are a high profile celebrity like her, it’s prudent to be careful with your jokes.

Suspect she made a mistake and meant Isle of Man. Ancient law on IOM that a manxman can shoot a Scotsman on sight. And IOM has well known controversial attitudes to homosexuality.
I really enjoy what you blog about here, very fresh and smart. One problem though, I’m running Firefox on Ubuntu and some of your site structure are a little broken. I realize it’s not a common setup, but it’s still something to keep an eye on. Just tossing you a heads up.
